LAM student Pengbo Liu attended Quantsol – International Summer School on Photovoltaics and New Concepts of Quantum Solar Energy Conversion, held from August 31 – September 7, 2025 in Hirschegg, Kleinwalsertal, Austria. The school primarily addresses young postdocs, PhD students, and master students with an interest in photovoltaics and solar energy conversion.

August 25, 2025, LAM doctoral student MSc. Sameer Kumar Tiwari successfully defended his dissertation “Preparation and characterization of chalcogenide perovskites,” thereby fulfilling the final requirement for obtaining the title of Doctor of Philosophy. Congratulations Sameer! May this milestone be the beginning of a very successful professional career!
LAM Director, Dr. Milan Sykora was invited to attended the joint meeting of the Austrian Physical Society (ÖPG) and the Swiss Physical Society (SPG) as a co-organizer of the mid-European symposium on condensed matter physics. He also served on the international committee for selection of best poster awards. This year the meeting took place from August 18 to 22, 2025, at the University of Vienna. Link
The article “Effect of Nanocrystal Shape on Charge Injection and Transport in CdSe Nanocrystalline Films” authored by LAM researchers Mrinmoy Roy, Ehsan Rezaie Ahari, and Milan Sykora, in collaboration with Štefan Nagy from the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, has been accepted for publication in the journal Inorganic Chemistry. LAM PhD student MSc. Pranav Sasikumar Ullattil successfully completed and defended his mid-term thesis “Preparation and Properties of Heteroatom-doped Nanographenes”. Congratulations Pranav and best of luck in the second half of your PhD studies!

LAM PhD students Ehsan R. Ahari and Sameer K. Tiwari presented the results of their research at the annual Student Scientific Conference at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, PriF UK 2025. The conference, which provides an opportunity for students of bachelor, master and doctoral degree studies in natural sciences to share their research progress, was held on 30 April 2025 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
LAM PhD student, Ehsan R. Ahari, has been awarded an Excellence Grant of the Comenius University (ExcGUK 2025) to support his research. The grant will be funded by the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan. Congratulations, Ehsan, and good luck with your project!

LAM PhD students Pengbo Liu presented his research results at the annual Student Scientific Conference at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, CU.

The completed LAM project “Semiconductor ternary chalcogenides with narrow bandgap”, financially supported by the Slovak Agency for Research and Development (APVV) from 2020 to 2024, was recognized as one of the most successful completed projects from the general call VV 2019 in all sectors of Slovak science and technology. A summary of the most important results was highlighted in the APVV’s annual publication for 2025. Congratulations to the research team that participated in this project.

New PhD student, MSc. Subhendu Patra, has joined the LAM team. Subhendu’s research focus will be primarily on nanographenes. Welcome to the team, Subhendu!


On March 3rd, 2025, members of the LAM team presented the LAM research at the annual Next Step Science conference. The conference focuses on networking between those interested in career opportunities in the natural sciences, from academia as well as private sector. Members of LAM team introduced the visitors to the main areas of scientific research at LAM, work and career opportunities in the laboratory, and the possibilities of future use of nanomaterials and new other materials developed at LAM.

During the week of February 8-14, 2025, LAM PhD student Sameer K. Tiwari attended International Winter School on Analytics for Photovoltaics and Photoelectrochemistry. The winter school organized by Helmholtz Zentrum, Berlin took place in Hirschegg, Kleinwalsertal, Austria. Upon his return, Sameer shared with the team interesting highlights of this great educational experience.
