LAM at NanoScientific 2026

Two LAM students, MSc. Pengbo Liu and MSc. Ehsan Rezaie Ahari, attended the 9th NANOscientific Forum Europe (NSFE2026), held from September 9 – 11, 2026, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. During the conference, which gathers researchers and industry professionals in materials science and surface analysis to explore cutting-edge developments in nanoscale imaging and metrology, MSc. Pengbo Liu delivered a poster titled “Substrate Engineering and Morphology Control of BaZrO₃ Precursor Films. MSc. Ehsan Rezaie Ahari delivered a poster “Charge injection through semiconductor nanocrystals (core and core/shell) with different sizes and morphologies”.

Ph.inisheD!

On August 27th, 2026, LAM doctoral student, MSc. Gokul Raj Mini Rajendran, successfully defended his dissertation “Preparation and Electronic Properties of Strongly Confined Graphene Quantum Dots and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons”, thereby fulfilling the final requirement for obtaining the title of Doctor of Philosophy. Big congratulations, Gokul Raj, on this major and fully earned accomplishment, we are proud of you! Wishing you all the success in your future endeavours!

New LAM publication

Gold nanocrystals (AuNCs) have been recently attracting interest as potential antimicrobial agents. One of the hurdles hindering quantitative studies in this area is the limited stability of AuNCs in common bacterial growth media (BGMs) with respect to flocculation.

On July 29, 2026, the article: “Stabilization of Gold Nanocrystals in Tryptic Soy Broth Bacterial Growth Medium“, authored by LAM researchers Ivana Božeková; Gokul Raj Mini Rajendran, Milan Sýkora, in collaboration with Monika Hofbauerová, Alica Rosová; Mária Mazúrová; Miroslava Horniačková, from the Slovak Medical University, was published in ACS Applied Bio Materials. Congratulations!

LAM researchers at EMRS conference in Strasbourg

At the heart of the E-MRS meetings portfolio are the E-MRS Spring and Fall Meetings. The major society conference, the E-MRS Spring Meeting, is organized every year and offers on average 25 topical symposia. The conference is widely recognized as being of the highest international significance and is the largest of its kind in Europe with about 2,500 attendees every year. Each symposium publishes its own proceedings that document the latest experimental and theoretical understanding of material growth and properties, the exploitation of new advanced processes, and the development of electronic devices that can benefit best from the outstanding physical properties of functional materials.
This year, LAM Director, Dr. Milan Sykora, and seven LAM team members, Mgr. Roman Bystrický, PhD., Mgr. Peter Hutár, PhD., MSc. Mrinmoy Roy, PhD., RNDr. Pavol Tisovský, PhD., MSc. Sameer Kumar Tiwari, PhD., Mgr. Ivana Tiwari, and MSc. Gokul Raj Mini Rajendran presented results of LAM research at this renowned international conference, held on May 25-29, 2026 at the Strasbourg Convention Centre.

LAM Open House Event

The LAM team participated in the Faculty of Natural Sciences Open House Event again this year. After the official part of the event, we organized a special tour of the LAM laboratories at the Science Park for those interested, during which our members presented the research areas we are currently working on. Fifteen students participated in this tour.
