About

Laboratory for Advanced Materials was established on September 1, 2018 as a new department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, through funding by European Commission under the Horizon2020, ERA Chair programme.

As defined by European Commission, the objective of the ERA Chair program is to help universities and research organizations within the widening area countries to “attract and maintain high quality human resources under the direction of an outstanding researcher and research manager, the ERA Chair holder, and in parallel implement the structural changes necessary to achieve excellence on a sustainable basis.”

Consistent with the objectives of the ERA chair program, at LAM our goal is to address challenges specific to the scientific and academic environment in Slovakia and at Comenius University. Our specific objectives are:

  • Help to increase scientific excellence at Comenius University
  • Strengthen the position and contribution of Comenius University in the field of materials research at an international level
  • Establish new productive collaborations with leading international research institutions and/or industry
  • Attract and help to retain the most talented young researchers from Slovakia and abroad
  • Catalyze and support structural changes needed to strengthen the position of Comenius University as a leading research and educational institution in Slovakia and elevate its significance in Europe
  • Implement measures that will help sustain the introduced changes
